In 1922, E.J. and Inez Land established a small printing shop on Main Street in the town of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They selected as their logo the printing press of Benjamin Franklin and named the shop Franklin Printing Company. The Lands were the owners, operators and sole employees. As Baton Rouge grew, Franklin Printing Company grew and prospered.
In 1933, they added a young apprentice, Francis Holliday, to their staff. He learned the printing trade well, absorbed the lessons of good business and honorable citizenship, and became a partner with the Lands. In 1949, Franklin Printing Company became Franklin Press, Inc., and Francis Holliday was named President.
The small shop steadily expanded to become a large printing plant known for excellence in every phase of the printing trade. Needing a larger facility, Franklin Press, Inc. moved to its current location on Highland Road in 1953, nestled between downtown Baton Rouge and Louisiana State University.
In 1975, Francis Holliday passed the business down to his two sons, Jensen and Tommy. Under their leadership, the Heidelberg 4-color press was introduced. Federal Copies, our quick-print division, was opened in 1995. A year later, the company was further expanded to include a full-service direct mail operation, and in 1999 the Sanden Web Press was added to process large quantity printing orders. In 2002, a 4-color Halm Jet Envelope Press was installed to meet the growing demand for full-color envelopes with a quick turnaround time.
